Utilizing the "single eye"

Christian Science affirms that spiritual existence is a fact and shows how this fact may be known and demonstrated in human affairs. This Science teaches that spiritual sense is natural to man, whose real identity is infinitely greater than the fallible personality the material senses behold.

In the pages of the Bible, Mrs. Eddy discovered the Science of man that false education had hidden for centuries. She discerned with the inner eye of understanding that man is really the spiritual embodiment of God's qualities, the compound idea of divine Mind, and therefore perfect, harmonious, and eternal.

This fact is not apparent to the physical senses, which perceive only material phenomena. Christian Science shows these phenomena to be mortally mental in nature, mesmerically induced thought-images that absorb the attention of mortals and blind them to spiritual reality and their true selfhood. Mrs. Eddy's writings point the way out of this hypnotic falsity. They show how through spiritual education, self-purification, and love we can discover our natural ability to see spiritually—utilize the "single eye" of which Christ Jesus spoke. He said, "If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light."  Matt. 6:22;
