Success and Happiness Without Alcohol

Drinking is often said to lend strength to character, add to one's attractiveness, and promote social and business achievements. It is suggested that indulgence in it tends to make one more manly or womanly.

We read in the Bible, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." Prov. 20:1; Alcohol tends to make men and women lose their balance, self-respect, health, and, in some cases, even their human sense of life. There is neither wisdom nor attractiveness in habits that express emotional weakness. Resorting to alcohol is a form of escapism.

Christian Science gives us an understanding of the true nature of man made in God's image and likeness, the divine qualities and ideas constituting our true identity as the spiritual reflections of God. The knowledge that the divine Mind is the only Mind controlling man unfolds the strength and purity of character and stability of purpose necessary to overcome the propensities of the illusory fleshly mind that would degrade us. It shows us that there can be no genuine satisfaction in sensual appetites, no abiding happiness where spirituality is absent. States Mrs. Eddy: "Sensualism is not bliss, but bondage. For true happiness, man must harmonize with his Principle, divine Love; the Son must be in accord with the Father, in conformity with Christ." Science and Health, p. 337;
