Signs of the Times
From an editorial
in the Burlington Free Press
Burlington, Vermont
We shall never be able to control crime until we strike at its roots, which are human selfishness, greed, determination to get what one desires regardless of the rights of others and how much injury is inflicted.
We must reestablish respect for one another's welfare, for a way of life in which common honesty is all-important because it is the only base on which we can build a sound society. Any people who are apathetic toward dishonesty are undermining the foundations of their civilization.
