There You Are

[For young adults]

Some young people use alcohol in an attempt to be part of the "in" crowd or to make a dreary human situation seem attractive or at least bearable. Others attempt with drugs to expand the mind, to heighten experience. Perhaps other young drug takers are simply experimenting with the senses, trying to find out more about themselves.

How can you find out more about who you really are? Where can you look for identity, fulfillment, meaningful involvement? Never in matter, says Christian Science, for it shows that the true nature of man is not material, that man is created by God, is His image and likeness. If we know what this likeness is, we are on the way to understanding who we really are.

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy gives this definition of God: The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Science and Health, p. 587; Here, by implication, we find the identity of the man of God's creating, man reflecting the omniscience, the power and presence, of his Maker. That means that everything in your true being reflects the orderliness of Principle, the infinite wisdom of Mind, the incorporeality and individuality of Spirit, the joy and inspiration of Soul, untouched by false sense or sensitivity.
