INSTEAD
When I am tempted
To feel impatient
With the adult's
Reluctant faith,
And annoyed
With the adolescent's
Sophistication,
And indignant
With humankind's
Thoughtlessness,
Then help me, dear Father,
To pause and remember
That they, even as myself,
Are all under
Your mandate of progress,
And that one day
We shall each stand
Fully clad
In the radiancy
Of Christ awareness;
And help me instead
To hallow and honor
This perfect selfhood
That I may
Hasten the hour
Of its fulfillment
And also maintain
My own
Peace of mind.
