Commune with God Wherever You Are

Much turbulence clamors for attention in our increasingly urbanized world. Annoyances, temptations, and dangers, many of them previously nonexistent, bombard our senses. Many of us find ourselves thinking we have to go back to nature to get away from it all.

Also, it may often be assumed that God's presence can be felt only in nature, and that one must go into the wilderness to commune with Him. The Master, Christ Jesus, taught us to reach out to God in prayer, contemplate His goodness and power, and discover our sonship with Him regardless of our human surroundings.

Not always did Jesus travel to wilderness areas to be at one with Him. Many times the multitudes surrounded him completely, and yet he had the spiritual composure and discernment to heal the individuals who asked for his help—the blind, the lame, the dumb, the insane. The Bible records his admonition regarding prayer: "Thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." Matt. 6:6;
