"There is no more pervasive power in the world today than youth power. Youth's rebellion is against the gerontocracy; it marks a break with the past. We must recognize in youth's revolution ... an outburst of moral indignation at the present state of society, a desire for active participation in the transformation of society. We must realize that right at this point the biblical message has a role to play. When the gospel is preached in its true fullness, slavery cannot continue. But how seldom we recognize this truth! So often we sow the seed by preaching the gospel of Jesus, then balk at harvesting the fruit our preaching creates. We must discover anew how to find in Christ the liberating message for our time, the message of the Book. To do this we must stop reducing the Bible to a devotional tract, or a text to use against 'heretics.' Let us remember that when we give a Bible we can be fostering the transformation of society."
