During the Korean War my husband, an Air Force B-26 pilot,...

During the Korean War my husband, an Air Force B-26 pilot, was missing in action for a number of months and subsequently declared dead. I was faced with raising our two sons alone, one of whom was five years old, the other sixteen months. Having had the opportunity to attend a Christian Science Sunday School for a few years when I was a child, I turned to Christian Science for help.

The children were enrolled in Sunday School, and I started attending church. My mother had given me a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, some years before, and although I kept it with me, I had never read it. I began to read the textbook and to study the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. Although I did not understand much of what I read at first, I recall that I was greatly comforted.

The immediate needs were a home and supply. We located a house in the construction stage that was to be available in a short time and was adequate for our requirements. Indeed, as Mrs. Eddy tells us, "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God" (Science and Health, p. 254).
