The following healing experience was one in which I was able to demonstrate some of the truths I have learned in Christian Science.

I was riding with a friend on his motorcycle to a swimming hole we visited frequently. We became concerned about some large birds in the road ahead of us. When they were slow in moving, my friend lost control of the cycle and headed straight for a culvert at a rather high rate of speed. I held tightly to the seat and immediately knew that God was in control and that no harm could come to us. Seconds later we found ourselves lying on the ground. I was having difficulty in breathing and severe pain in my back. However, I began declaring the truths I had learned in Christian Science of God's supreme control and man's spiritual nature made in God's likeness. I was able to get up to see if my friend was all right. I found that he was standing but rather shaken. We saw that the cycle had been demolished by the impact with the culvert.

I flagged an oncoming truck and asked for a ride home. The men had seen the accident and were surprised to learn that we were both in good shape. They offered to take us to the hospital, but we asked to be taken home. On the way I continued to declare the truth that man is in God's care at all times, and I was very thankful to God that my friend and I were both all right. When I reached home and told my mother what had happened, we began reading the Lesson-Sermon from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The pain in my back began to cease, and I felt overjoyed with Truth.
