Silence Corporeal Sense
One of the essential steps in effective prayer is to silence corporeal sense in order that one may hear the evidence of Spirit and feel the healing energy of divine Love. Spiritual sense and corporeal sense are antagonistic, for one is the outcome of divine Mind, while the other is the emanation of mortal mind. To have one God, one Mind, we must learn to refute corporeal sense and to silence the belief that life and intelligence can be in matter. As we do this, the evidence of God's control will become more apparent in our lives.
Human life seems to be a mixture of good and evil, truth and error, harmony and discord, stemming from the belief in more than one creator, more than one Mind, more than one God. The second chapter of Genesis pictures the false, material sense of creation when "the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it." Gen. 2:15; It tells the story of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and of Adam's fall from grace through eating the fruit of this tree. In the new heaven and the new earth pictured in the book of Revelation there is also the figure of a tree. But this tree is the tree of life, and "the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." Rev. 22:2;
Christian Science teaches us that Life is God, incorporeal Spirit, and that man as God's child is spiritual and perfect. He is not a material, bodily form but a spiritual idea. He has spiritual, not corporeal, sense. Through his spiritual sense he understands the presence and power of God, feels the government of divine Principle, and reflects the harmony and health that come from Soul, God. Mrs. Eddy says, "Corporeal sense, or error, may seem to hide Truth, health, harmony, and Science, as the mist obscures the sun or the mountain; but Science, the sunshine of Truth, will melt away the shadow and reveal the celestial peaks." Science and Health, p. 299;
