About fifty years ago I had the blessing of attending a Christian Science Sunday School for a short period before moving to a district where there was no Church of Christ, Scientist, or Sunday School. It was not long before my mother learned of others interested in Christian Science, and four or five of us meeting at the home of one neighbor held Sunday services. I then continued my education away from home, and as my father had passed on and later my mother, I never returned to this home. So lovingly was I taught in the Sunday School and helped by this period of attending the services that Christian Science has been my mainstay.

During my first period of employment I complained of conditions at work, and because there was no immediate improvement, I became resentful. Very quickly I was paralyzed and confined to my room. The authority where I was employed insisted upon medical examination to determine the name of the condition. No medication was offered or sought. After three months I was sent to another place having ideal working conditions. I was accepted into the home of kindly people; and while I could get around reasonably at this time, yet at the end of the day I was physically weak and suffered spasms of pain. My hosts noticed this and offered to call the doctor who attended them. The offer was kindly refused, and through my prayers I was free from the trouble within a year and was taking part in sporting activities. I have been free ever since—some thirty-seven years.

Throughout this period it seemed I was too far from a Christian Science church to attend. Also I knew of no Christian Science practitioner near, and so I relied upon such understanding of God as I had. "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest" (Josh. 1:9). This statement, together with the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual sense as given by Mrs. Eddy, were with me throughout the experience, for I had no literature or copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, at the time. Two lines of the Lord's Prayer with the spiritual interpretation are as follows (ibid., pp. 16, 17):
