Do I Believe?
So many times when Jesus was asked for help he would say in effect, as he did to the blind men: "Believe ye that I am able to do this?" Matt. 9:28; They answered, "Yea, Lord." And we read that "their eyes were opened." This was not a single occurrence. There were others of whom the Master asked the same sort of question. To Jesus, this was an important point. As he is our Way-shower, there is an obvious reason for its importance to us.
We may not know exactly what the Master discerned in the thought of his petitioners. However, it seems quite clear that he was testing their receptivity.
