There is a simplicity in anything that is beautiful, and Christian Science is beautiful in its simplicity. The single fact that God is All is the wonderful basic truth that Christian Science teaches. It is very easy to fall into the trap of believing that error can be real, but if God is All—all Love, Life, Truth, intelligence, Mind, Soul— everything real must be derived from God.

The nothingness of matter, error, was demonstrated very vividly to our family. Our two-year-old son, who supposedly was taking his afternoon nap, appeared at the door of the room crying. When we went to find out what was wrong, we found all his fingers bleeding. He also had yellow coloring all around his mouth. We cleaned him off and put him back to bed. Then we looked to find out what had happened. He had gotten into the suitcase of a guest and had been playing with his razor blades. What was quite alarming, though, was that he had consumed half of a new bottle of pills belonging to this guest.

Fear was what needed to be handled here, because the common thought would have predicted dire consequences. Although my wife and I were quite fearful at first, we started to pray earnestly to replace this fear with love. Fear is the absence of love. As our thought turned from the mortal picture to the realm of Spirit, God, immediately the truth was there. The thought came, "What effect can nonintelligent matter have on a child of God? What effect can a pill have on a wholly spiritual idea, which we know the boy to be? If God is All, there can be nothing but His allness." These answers were so obvious and so clear that we were released from fear and the situation was completely met in our thought.
