"No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme." These words of Mrs. Eddy found on page 277 of her Miscellaneous Writings were a great help to me at a time when "evidence before the material senses" seemed quite alarming. My son had an infection on his face, I asked a practitioner to do prayerful work for him right away.

Each day for about two weeks we held to the truth that man is perfect, but there was little improvement. I finally had a long talk with the practitioner. It was uncovered that I was wrestling with a false sense of responsibility as the child's parent. I was concerned a great deal with what people around me were thinking.

The practitioner pointed out to me that in arithmetic we can arrive at the correct answer to a problem only by following the rules. He said that I knew two and two equal four and that if others believed differently I didn't have to believe what they believed. I reasoned that the law of God says man is always perfect and remains so. Then, in reality, this child was perfect, no matter what the material senses said to the contrary. In just a few days all the material evidence disappeared. The boy's face was healed.
