Brian's Bouncing Ball

[For preschoolers]

Brian often came to stay with his grandmother and grandfather on the ranch. What fun he had! The big barn was filled to the rafters with hay. He could climb the bales like stairs and touch the roof. From the high barn window he could see the red and white cows and their calves grazing in the pasture that sloped down to the river. The mother cat and her orange kitten who lived in the barn were always ready to play with him.

One day Brian got a new ball for a present. It bounded higher than any ball he had ever had.

"I'm going to call it Bouncing Ball," he said, and ran out into the driveway to play with it. He bounced it for a while, higher and higher. Then he found it was fun to roll it through a long irrigation pipe, from one end to the other.
