Yielding to Harmony

Every condition that needs correction—whether of health, supply, or human relationships—is a mental condition. To change a state of consciousness from discord to harmony, one must be willing to exchange thoughts of shortcoming for the concept of the perfection with which God endows man as His child.

Every discord has a counterfact, and this counterfact reveals the perfection of the real man. But to realize this perfection, one must understand what Christian Science teaches of the relationship of God and man. God made man in His image and likeness; therefore man can express only what God expresses.

If we are tempted to believe that we are sick or in pain, we need to cling steadfastly to the truth, taught in Christian Science, that man is God's spiritual, perfect idea. This truth needs to fill our thought so that there is no room for the illusion of sickness. We know that God did not create sickness because, according to the first chapter of Genesis, all He made was good. Mrs. Eddy writes: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." Science and Health, pp. 476, 477; When what Jesus beheld becomes a conviction in our own thinking, we too can heal the sick.
