"All things work together for good to them that love God" (Rom. 8:28)

"All things work together for good to them that love God" (Rom. 8:28). Things have certainly worked "together for good" in my experience since I began studying Christian Science. It was over ten years ago that my mother, who was visiting my husband and me, took me to my first Christian Science church service. Though not a church member, she had received help many years before from a Christian Science practitioner and had been cured of a serious stomach ailment.

I resented the thought that there was anything wrong with me, but both my husband and mother agreed that something needed to be done to free me from a nervous condition, from being upset when I should have been calm, from feeling ungrateful, dissatisfied, and confused when I should have expressed gratitude, contentment, and stability.

It was very difficult for me to let myself be taken in hand like a child needing guidance, but I did attend the church service with my mother. Though I do not recall any specific parts of the readings that Sunday, there was so much love and tenderness expressed in them and in the singing of the hymns that I just started to cry like a child. I believe it was the first time that I had really felt close to God.
