When Christian Science first came into my life, I was ill and...

When Christian Science first came into my life, I was ill and seemed to be of no use to myself or to anyone around me. Then my mother, the only one who did not consider me a burden, passed on. I went to live with a family of Christian Scientists who made it possible for me to attend a Christian Science Sunday School regularly. There I learned that God is my Mother as well as my Father and that I, His child, am made in His image and likeness. As these truths became real to me, I became stronger and was able to take part in the same activities as my young friends of those days. Since that time, through the teachings of Christian Science, my life has been a healthy and a useful one.

I am grateful that our two sons also had the happy experience of attending a Christian Science Sunday School. The instruction they received helped them in their school life and enabled them to pass their school examinations successfully. Today it is helping them in the business world.

One healing for which I am grateful took place when our elder son was about three years old and sustained facial injuries in an accident. My fears were great when I saw the child's face. However, I put him to rest, and then immediately opened my copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, to find some words of truth to destroy the fear of disfigurement. I found this sentence beginning at the bottom of page 470: "The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history."
