"A faith-lighted thought"

Those of us who know something of God desire to increase our faith and learn more of our own true relationship with the heavenly Father. In an article entitled "The New Birth" Mrs. Eddy says, "What a faith-lighted thought is this! that mortals can lay off the 'old man,' until man is found to be the image of the infinite good that we name God, and the fulness of the stature of man in Christ appears." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 15;

Someone may ask if, according to the senses, man isn't mortal. Through the study of Christian Science we learn that we must judge only by what we know to be true spiritually and not by what we see materially. The Apostle Paul directed attention to this fact when he declared, "We walk by faith, not by sight." II Cor. 5:7;

This Science shows that the dreamlike evidence of the material senses which declares that man is born, matures, and dies is not true. It is an outlined belief of the so-called carnal, or mortal, mind. Since God, infinite Love, never made it, it does not really exist. Hence, this mortal testimony will disappear from one's experience in the measure that he gains the spiritual understanding that God, good, is the only Mind. Then he will see that actually man is God's image, His spiritual, perfect son, or idea. This is our real status, our genuine selfhood, which is Spirit's reflection, man.
