Overpopulation—What to Do About It

Forecasts have aroused concern that if the present rate of population increase should continue, the number of people on the earth would in the foreseeable future exceed the earth's ability to care for them. Is there anything an individual can do to help solve this worldwide threat? Yes, there is. He can pray with confidence in God's power.

One who professes to believe in God surely should not doubt that an all-wise, omnipotent Deity imparts the intelligence needed to solve any problem, no matter how vast it appears. By turning to God in earnest prayer, one can do his important part to bring about a correct solution.

In accordance with the teachings of Christian Science, to pray aright requires discerning the spiritual facts that counter and destroy the baneful material picture. In considering the feared results of what has been termed a population explosion, one begins with the basic verity that the true creation is God's; and because God is Spirit or Mind, His creation is constituted of spiritual ideas. What God has created—the universe including man—must be perfect, harmonious, eternal, fully governed by omniscient Mind. Therein every need is met; there can be no overcrowding, no excess of any kind, no imbalance between need and supply. If God is good, that which He makes can have no element of evil.
