While attending a sales conference in Puerto Rico, I had a wonderful opportunity to work prayerfully with the spiritual truths of God in mentally resisting evidences of materialism and sensualism.

After being involved in all-day meetings and informal social activity in the evening, I flew back home. I was awakened during the following night with severe stomach pains resulting in nausea. My first thought was to commune with God in affirming man's perfection as the idea of Mind, the reflection of divine Principle, and to deny as unreal any feeling of physical discomfort. On getting up, I quietly and intently conccntrated on studying the Lesson-Sermon for that week set out in the Christian Science Quarterly. While I was doing this, suggestions of infection and food poisoning came to me.

In thinking of the different meanings of the word "poison," I could see that perhaps I had done insufficient prayerful work to offset erroneous suggestions associated with gambling, drinking, smoking, and humor and entertainment of a questionable nature, many of which surround business conferences. These would have a tendency to compromise or to negate our spiritually prepared thought. It was apparent at that particular time, and has been since then, that the entire world is faced with the need to prove greater moral courage and an ethical conscience in overcoming much-publicized sensuous beliefs that would undermine or defile Godlike qualities.
