I heard of Christian Science when I was twelve through my mother, who had just been healed of deforming rheumatism which had paralyzed her down one side. While reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy all one night she had a wonderful sense of what "the glorious liberty of the children of God" (Rom. 8:21) is, and in the morning she found that she was healed.

I became very much interested in Christian Science, but the road from sense to Soul was long for me and filled with traps. I had to overcome a nervous temperament and oversensitivity.

Before we knew of Christian Science, I had suffered a lesion of my lungs for which the doctors had treated me for two years. I had very delicate lungs, and when I was thirteen years old, I had a serious collapse while on vacation at my great-aunts' home. They called a doctor. As soon as the fever diminished, they sent me to my mother, who insisted that I come home. I was treated in Christian Science by a practitioner. In a month the lesion healed up and never again opened. It was a marvelous healing, for which I am deeply grateful.
