Seventeen years ago I was driving a car when I suddenly experienced faintness and a loss of equilibrium. The next two months were filled with a search for a diagnosis and cure. Never before having had anything wrong that seemed puzzling to a medical doctor, I became more and more frightened when one pronouncement followed another; I was reduced to a state of extreme weakness and fear and had lost much weight.

Finally I went to a neighbor who was a Christian Scientist and asked if the practitioner she usually engaged could help me. A telephone call was made to the practitioner, and I listened to the healing words of comfort, which were expressed in a remarkably kind voice. Although I did not know what I was actually seeking or what I was receiving, that night I slept well for the first time in two months. A few days' later I realized that I had not had a cigarette since that telephone call. Prior to the call I had been smoking one package of cigarettes daily.

The entire healing took some time. I was still frightened by the various statements which the medical doctors had made. But as understanding dissolved ignorance, obedience to the Christian command to love brought about many demonstrations. Headaches, dizziness, lack, discord, and undesirable traits of character were replaced with health, supply, harmony, and love for all mankind until my healing was complete.
