"No vapid fury of mortal mind"

Are our lives at the mercy of material forces over which we have no control? The Bible indicates that this is not so. Throughout the Scriptures there are many accounts of people who understood and claimed the dominion which God bestows on man and who thus triumphed over epidemics, floods, heredity, windstorms, mob frenzy, and military superiority.

Through our growing understanding of our real being, as taught in Christian Science, we too can demonstrate dominion over the false claims of power in matter. Basing our studies on the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, we learn that God is good, the only power and presence— All-in-all. So it is clear that all space must be filled with good and that in reality there is no room for any evil mind or force. Storms and disasters are neither natural nor inevitable.

We may take any one of the synonyms for God which are given in the textbook and apply it to the belief of evil forces. For example, God is Spirit. Since Spirit is the only power and presence, there can be no matter and no material cause or effect. The divine energies of Spirit are the only forces which really exist. Material forces have only the power we mistakenly assign to them.
