RADIO PROGRAM NO. 256 - What Is the Basis of Brotherhood?

Questioner: Many people, I believe, think of the basis of brotherhood as a strong feeling of a blood relation or ethnic ties: standing up for one's own kind. What's your view of a basis for brotherhood? Speaker: Well, there's much more to it, I think, than belonging to this or that racial or ethnic group. I think we must start by looking at it from an entirely different point of view.

The actual basis is found in an understanding of that to which man really belongs and of the purpose for which he belongs to it. All people in their true selfhood are sons and daughters of God, and as such they belong to God. They belong to the one divine Father. And we find that belonging to God is for the purpose of expressing God's nature. This is what man exists for, to express the spiritual qualities of God.

The higher we lift our thought above the human level to view what man belongs to and why he belongs to it, the wider our horizons grow and the more we're able to embrace the good in others.
