I attended a Christian Science Sunday School from the age of three until I was twenty, and often think of the many fine teachers I had and of the profound truths I learned there and used easily as a child.

When problems have come to me that have seemed insurmountable, I have thought of the first testimony I heard my mother give at a Wednesday evening meeting, and the very simplicity of the truth it contained has been demonstrated again and again. She told of my healing of croup as a baby when she was a new student and alone at night. In those days the only available telephone was quite a distance away. She prayed for courage and support until the morning, when she could call a practitioner.

She said that the thought came to her that if the iceman were to leave a large piece of ice on the front porch and the sun were to come up and continue to shine on it, certainly the ice would melt and become smaller and smaller until finally there would not even be a spot to show where it had been. She reasoned that this was similar to what would happen to the croup. All she had to do was to keep on praying and pouring in the light of Truth as she was learning to do in Christian Science. We both were sleeping soundly when the sunshine came into the windows the next morning, and there was no evidence that there had ever been croup.
