Many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near (Luke 21:8)

In the Greek, the word "Christ" is not expressed at this point, and we find simply, "saying, I am"; moreover, in the original, the statement, "the time draweth near," could be understood either as a saying of Jesus or as a prophecy of what would be said by anyone who would cry, "I am," or, "I am he." Goodspeed renders, "Many will come under my name, and say, 'I am he.' and 'The time is at hand'"; while Phillips has, "There will be many coming in my name, saving 'I am he' and 'The time is very near now.'"

All nations . . . are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity (Isa. 40:17)
