To me. 1964 was a golden anniversary in Christian Science, for it was fifty years earlier that this religion was offered to me.
I learned of Science from the First Reader of a branch church in the city where we lived at that time. He told my sister of its healing power when he came to my husband's office on a business matter and found my sister, who assisted in the office, much dismayed because her glasses had fallen and broken. She told him how glad she would be not to have to wear them, and he quietly replied that he used to wear glasses but no longer needed them. She eagerly questioned him on how this had come about, and he told her that he had been healed in Christian Science.
My sister asked him what steps to take to learn of this Science, and he told her about the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and the list of practitioners to be found in The Christian Science Journal, and invited her to attend a branch church. None of these details were known to my sister or any of our family. We knew only that there was a religion known as Christian Science.
