What God Is
Statistics show that a great many people on this planet believe in God. For instance, of North America's two hundred and eighty-six million inhabitants, about 72 percent are adherents of religions that teach the existence of one God. And many nonadherents admit that they believe in the existence of God.
To believe in God is one thing; to understand and actually worship Him is another. But belief is a good beginning for building an understanding of Him. What everyone needs is an increasing knowledge of what God is, for such knowledge brings the power to prove His presence and His supremacy over evil. No one should stop at belief; a search for understanding should go on.
Christian Science is expanding the understanding of God for many people and is making His infinite goodness available to them in ways before unknown. This Science describes Him in many ways, but with particular effectiveness as the Supreme Being, whose sevenfold nature is expressed as Love, Life, Truth, Mind, Soul, Principle, Spirit. These seven synonyms are demonstrable realities, not mere names. We can expand our understanding of God by applying them as realities in working out the problems of being.
