One morning about three years ago I decided that I would go...

One morning about three years ago I decided that I would go out and dust off my automobile which was parked in front of my window. While I was rubbing off the dust, I had a feeling that the car was moving from under me. I looked; however, reason assured me that the car was in the same place and had not moved but that something was not as it should be and that I should get into my apartment. When I started for the house, I found that my legs were not functioning in a normal way. I had a short distance to go and finally got inside.

The thought came to me to lie down and rest, but another thought came, "If you lie down, you may never get up." I did not lie down but sat on a chair and vigorously declared man's sonship with God.

My telephone rang. I started across the room to answer it, but my legs would not move. I could not walk. I tried to crawl on my hands and knees, but could not. A sentence came to me from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (pp. 390, 391), "Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit." I struggled to my feet by holding on to anything that I could get my hands on. I declared my oneness with God and argued on the side of Truth and against the error that seemed so real. I declared vehemently all the truths that I could think of and denied the claims of sin, disease, and mortality. In a short time, possibly an hour, I was able to get to my telephone and ask a friend for some prayerful support. This was promptly forthcoming.
