"Hold that fast which thou hast"

Men fear what they do not understand, but with enlightenment and understanding, fear vanishes. How much fear must have disappeared when intrepid explorers of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries proved that the earth is round instead of flat and that no one would fall off its edge into oblivion! When a misconception of any kind is corrected, one is wiser and need never again suffer from it.

This logical reasoning applies also to healings accomplished in Christian Science. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" came to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, as a divine revelation. This volume sets forth spiritual facts or laws which are demonstrable when they are properly and understandingly applied. Treatment in Christian Science consists of the application of divine law to any form of evil or error, and this treatment results in the destruction of that evil. This Science is in complete agreement with the record of spiritual creation as given in the first chapter of Genesis, wherein man is described as made in God's image and likeness.

When one seeks healing in Christian Science, it is because some evidence of the physical senses is disputing the spiritual fact of the perfection of God's creation. This false evidence is just as much an illusion as was the mistaken belief that the earth was flat, and it must be corrected. What is needed is a change of consciousness from the belief that the universe is material and that man is a physical body to the realization that God's creation is spiritual and that His ideas are harmonious and perfect. When the spiritual fact of any situation or condition is clearly seen or understood, the material misconception is dispelled. Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32; When one knows the truth of any situation, he is master of it.
