I wish to express my deep love and gratitude for Christian Science...

I wish to express my deep love and gratitude for Christian Science, especially after an experience during the November, 1961, fire in Bel-Air, California. Our house was just a gust of wind away from houses that were burning. Then suddenly flames were all over the hill back of us. This fire broke out during the forenoon, and most of the men in the area had already left for the day and did not know about the fire. I had called a practitioner earlier that morning informing her of the fire and asking for Christian Science help, which she promised to give. I kept repeating the Lord's Prayer and "the scientific statement of being" alternately, over and over again, trying to keep my thought clear. In the statement, which is found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, are these words: "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."

By this time all on our block had started to evacuate, including myself. I put a few things in the car, but I found it difficult to leave; so I went back, and a dear friend and I watered down the roof.

During all of this time, dashing about as I was, my communion with God was constant. The wind was so great and the sky so dark with smoke that it was more like evening than daytime. It was at this point as I stood looking at our building, stunned with the sight of smoke surrounding it from a nearby burning house, that my friend turned to me and asked, "Do you know that the wind has turned?" To my great joy, the fire had turned off in another direction, and it burned itself out, destroying no more homes in that area.
