Demonstrating Greater Usefulness

Christian Science reveals the way to demonstrate greater usefulness and thus to refute and overcome the generally accepted beliefs that would limit achievement along all lines of endeavor. Among the beliefs which constitute stumbling blocks along the road to progress are those in regard to age.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. writes: "The measurement of life by solar years robs youth and gives ugliness to age. The radiant sun of virtue and truth coexists with being. Manhood is its eternal noon, undimmed by a declining sun.' Seience and Health, p. 246; Humanly speaking, each stage of growth and development carries with it certain phases or characteristics. Some of these are erroneous and difficult, while others may appear to be good. Through the understanding of spiritual selfhood, gained through the study of Christian Science, we find that these conditions are but states of thought.

Jesus proved at an early age that the limits which material sense places on youth are without reality or power. At the age of twelve he was found in the temple, discoursing with the learned men of his day. It was not education or worldly experience which enabled him to astonish those who heard him. It was his understanding of the presence and power of the one Mind, God, which lifted him far beyond the limiting beliefs of childhood.
