What Will You Give?
A student of Christian Science heard on her car radio one day this question, "What will you give to help stamp out ... ?" and the name of a disease was given. The speaker went on to urge listeners to donate money to the fund for research which was to help overcome this disease. The student was startled at this direct question and thought about it for some time afterward. What would I give? she asked herself.
She had learned through years of studying and demonstrating Christian Science, the spiritual method of healing practiced by Christ Jesus centuries ago and discovered by Mrs. Eddy, that only through the correction of thought can bodily conditions be improved. Trying to destroy sickness by altering physical conditions is like trying to change an image in mirror doing something to the mirror.
The body reflects the thought of the person owning the body. When the thought is reflecting divine Mind, God, and is free of fear, ignorance, and sin, the body expresses health and harmony. As Mrs. Eddy puts it in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 260), "Jesus knew that erring mortal thought holds only in itself the supposition of evil, and that sin, sickness, and death are its subjective states; also, that pure Mind is the truth of being that subjugates and destroys any suppositional or elementary opposite to Him who is All."
