To Comfort Those That Mourn
A military Chaplain is frequently called upon to comfort someone in grief. The problem of finding the right approach in each case is a difficult one.
Through the study of Christian Science one learns that man is the immortal image of Mind, God, divine Love, and that by identifying oneself with Mind as its reflection one can experience something of true manhood. Godlike qualities needed to bring true comfort—qualities such as wisdom, grace, love, intelligence, intuition—appear, and one can use them.
When I was a Chaplain, I found it helpful to respond to each call of an emergency nature first with a deep desire to know who I was. It is easy to repeat the words that say we are God's spiritual ideas, but actually to know we are is another matter. I needed the prayer of conscious communion with Mind, then and there, to feel the presence of Mind and to recognize the intuitive ability I reflected, in order to meet the situation I was about to face.
