More than half a century ago my parents took up the study of Christian Science after my mother's health was restored through the prayers of a practitioner. Several specialists, including members of the faculty of a well-respected midwestern medical college, were unable to diagnose her illness fully or give her any lasting relief. Unwilling to accept either the dire predictions of the physicians or the plea from his minister that he resign himself to the loss of his wife, my father sought the help of the only Christian Scientist in their small community. Within a few days Mother was up and was able to perform many of her normal household duties.
Sometime ago, in telling me of her healing, she said, "Within a few hours after the practitioner began to work for me, I felt that I was healed, and it was apparent to me that my strength was returning." All the false claims urged upon my mother by the well-intentioned medical doctors were one by one proven powerless; and the healing has been permanent.
