In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy...

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. 496), "We all must learn that Life is God."

A number of years ago I had to learn the truth of this statement. Our eldest son was in the service of his country. We were looking forward to his return home, when three weeks prior to his returning, he suddenly passed on by drowning. For the moment our family was stunned when this news reached us. We then turned in prayer to God as we are taught to do in Christian Science and tried to know that there is no death and that nothing can erase Life. The first words spoken were from our youngest son, aged sixteen, who said to me, "Mother, our loved one is right now holier and happier than we are, but we are just not ready to give him up." How true it is that when our dear ones pass from our sight, they do not experience death; but those remaining must rise above the mist!

For two days after this news reached us, I constantly prayed for an answer as to why this happened to a promising young man who was a graduate of a college for the sons and daughters of Christian Scientists, who had almost finished his service for his country, and who was prepared to take his place in the world. On the third day after we had received the news, I arose at dawn and sat down at our living room window, which has a very picturesque view overlooking the hills. As the sun began to rise above the hills, it was to me the most beautiful scene I had ever viewed. Because it was midsummer, many birds were flying and singing, flowers were in full bloom, pastures were green, and fields were ripe with golden grain.
