The Simplicity of Truth

The Apostle Paul spoke of behaving "in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God." II Cor. 1:12; Simplicity is a distinctive characteristic of the Word of God. Divine Mind expresses both the language and the message of its revelation to humanity with unmistakable clarity. How different from the voluminous opinions of human learning! Mortal mind requires endless hypotheses, treatises, and pedantic theology to explain itself, but God speaks simply to the heart.

Both Christ Jesus and his devoted follower Mrs. Eddy emphasized the need of simplicity in gaining salvation through divine Truth. Jesus admonished, "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." Matt. 18: 3;

In answer to the question stated in "Miscellaneous Writings," "If Christian Science is the same as Jesus taught, why is it not more simple, so that all can readily understand it?" Mrs. Eddy has this to say: "The teachings of Jesus were simple; and yet he found it difficult to make the rulers understand, because of their great lack of spirituality. Christian Science is simple, and readily understood by the children; only the thought educated away from it finds it abstract or difficult to perceive." Mis., p. 53;
