"Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift" (II Cor. 9: 15)

"Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift" (II Cor. 9: 15). My gratitude is deep indeed for the gift of Christian Science, for I should not be living today had it not been for this Science. When I was fifteen months old, the family physician and consulting specialists stated that my death was inevitable due to poliomyelitis complicated by pneumonia. My paternal grandparents had recently become interested in Christian Science, and in desperation my parents asked a practitioner for help. The healing came quickly and completely; there were no aftereffects.

Instances of help in academic work, of protection, and of healing have been many throughout the years since that time. In college the realization of the fact that there is but one Mind and that man is the expression of that Mind enabled me to pass a difficult final examination with the highest grade the professor had ever given for that particular examination.

A friend, also a student of Christian Science, and I had a wonderful proof of the protecting power of divine Love en route home by car from a pack trip in the Sierras. As I drove down the last mountain road to flat country, a thumping sound made me draw to the side of the road, believing a tire was flat. Immediately the left rear wheel came off. A car, which we had just passed, came to a stop behind us. The driver, who said he never stopped for anyone and was wondering why he was doing so in this instance, stated after examination that nothing could be done at the moment as all the lugs were gone. I was led to walk back up the road, and there in a little pile were the lugs. The man, a mechanic, was able to fix the wheel so that we could continue on our way.
