After almost fifty years of being the recipient of blessings in Christian Science, I desire to express my deep gratitude to God for His sustaining power under every and all circumstances.

Some years ago I had a healing of a condition which included a cough, inability to eat, weakness, and an aggravated sense of nervousness. One evening when I was alone for a few hours a crisis occurred which made it necessary for me to rely on God individually and completely. I had a decided feeling that I was passing on, for my breathing was very much obstructed. A feeling of desperation attacked me because I could not reach the telephone to call for help. Then, as I was accustomed to doing in time of need, I picked up a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy which was on the bedside table and opened it at random. My attention was directed to the following sentence (p. 462): "Anatomy, when conceived of spiritually, is mental self-knowledge, and consists in the dissection of thoughts to discover their quality, quantity, and origin."

The angel thought which immediately came to me was: "All that I need to know is my spiritual selfhood, which has nothing to do with the material sense of body which I seem to be struggling with. This spiritual selfhood is my true being and expresses all the qualities of God here and now." I needed at that moment to understand this truth more clearly and to use the power contained in it.
