I waited patiently for the Lord (Ps. 40:1)
Literally, "Waiting, I waited for the Lord"; implying, possibly, "I waited and waited for the Lord." Since, in the idiom of the Hebrew, repetition of this kind often implies intensification, another rendering could be, "I waited eagerly for the Lord."
An horrible pit (Ps. 40:2)
