Christian Science and Politics

Politics is a broad subject. Mainly it deals with government, its establishment, policies, methods, and influences. One definition given by Webster is, "The total complex of relations between men in society." Like all socially related subjects, politics is improved in the measure that honesty and an unselfed desire to serve are expressed.

In free countries where citizens can choose between parties and between candidates for office, great care should be exercised on the part of the electorate. Each voter should be well informed as to the aims of the parties as well as those of the candidates. Too frequently prayer is not resorted to or even thought of. Blind human will follows the prejudices—often inherited of the people. But wisdom is the great need.

Christian Science is helpful in the carrying out of the political responsibility of voters because it shows people how to demonstrate wisdom in making choices. And Science can actually destroy the materialistic influences that would flood human thought and pervert it. Wisdom is a quality of God, and wisdom never makes a mistake. Hence it is important to realize at the time of an election that wisdom is a universal fact and that man reflects it.
