A number of years ago our daughter, at that time aged five, was riding a horse around our property and unintentionally signaled him to make a sharp right turn. Not expecting this sudden change of direction, the horse shied, and she was thrown with a great deal of force headfirst onto a hard surfaced driveway, which she happened to be crossing at that moment. The physical evidence was alarming. She received a badly scraped and bleeding forehead, and she was in a state of shock, alternately semiconscious and completely unconscious.
At this time my husband had not accepted Christian Science, and it was new to me. At first we were very uncertain how to proceed. Then I recalled these words of Mrs. Eddy (Poems, p. 14):
