While still a beginner in the study of Christian Science, I had an experience which was very valuable to me. I was ill with shingles and got in touch with a practitioner, who went to work for me right away. Fearlessness was the only thing that I contributed to my recovery. I went back to school expecting a positive effect from the spiritual work of the practitioner. Inside a few days I was free.

But instead of availing myself of the opportunity to take a step forward in my understanding of man as the invariably healthy and perfect idea of God, I let the case rest as closed. After about two years, I was forced to progress. The same symptoms again appeared. Since I recognized my mistake at once, I did not wonder about it at all. Meanwhile I had learned so much in the Christian Science Sunday School that I immediately went to work energetically to handle the situation. Mary Baker Eddy's thought in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was helpful to me, "Truth cannot be contaminated by error" (p. 287). In a short time I was definitely healed.

For this, as well as for further healings of grippe and colds, I am deeply thankful. Through the daily study of the Bible Lessons, found in the Christian Science Quarterly, with my family, and the attendant spiritualization of thought, more harmony and peace have entered our home. I am also very grateful for obvious guidance and protection in travel. I am happy that I am learning through Christian Science to measure everything by the right standard. In this connection, instruction in the Sunday School has helped me very much. I would say with Paul (Eph. 1:3), "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ." This blessing has been revealed to us in Christian Science.
