An Ever-present Antidote

A friend of mine told me that she had seen a single magpie in the garden and that this was supposed to be a bad omen, but because she had applied an antidote by saying, "Good morning, Sir," she felt quite safe. This incident caused the writer to feel a deep sense of gratitude for Christian Science, which frees us from all superstition and provides an ever-present and infallible antidote for every phase of evil which may suggest itself.

Those who rely on imaginary antidotes are being victimized by fictitious beliefs and live in a constant state of apprehension and uncertainty. Such supposed antidotes can afford no true sense of security, since they merely represent an exchange of one false belief for another. We cannot attain abiding peace until we secure an understanding of what constitutes real safety and where it can be found.

Christian Science teaches that God, divine Love, alone ensures the continuous unfolding of good for each individual because man coexists with Him. Nothing can interrupt the harmony of man's being as God's reflection; this spiritual relationship is always intact. In the reality of being there is nothing for which we need an antidote or remedy. Mortals need only to be liberated from wrong beliefs stemming from false education.
