Education—True or False?

For centuries mankind have been educated to regard the human body as the true indicator of one's state of health. They have been taught to note its every variation in appcarance, sensation, and functioning, and the summing up of these material signs as the whole and true condition of one's conscious being. And continuing today through the media of the press, radio, and television, people still focus attention on the body—how to exercise, feed, and clothe it if they would maintain health. False education indeed!

In his Sermon on the Mount, Christ Jesus emphasized the fallacy of material education as to health when he said: "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?" Matt. 6:25; Later he added, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." v. 33; May we not correctly infer that "all these things" include our health, our well-being, our wholeness? Yes, but we must be obedient and seek first and foremost the kingdom of God. How? By changing thought from a basis of material belief to that of spiritual understanding, which constitutes the heavenly kingdom.

When one takes up the study of Christian Science, or the Science of Christianity, one embarks upon true health education. This education turns thought away from body and from that which leads to belief in material laws and conditions supposed to govern men to the truly healthful state of ever-present spiritual being. This true, spiritual education is achieved through earnest study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
