Truly "man's extremity is God's opportunity." When I was just becoming interested in Christian Science, I cut a deep gash in the palm of my hand, apparently severing the muscle and tendons. The loss of blood was alarming.
My wife asked me to make the decision whether I wished her to call for medical help or to contact a practitioner. Without hesitation I asked for Christian Science help. A practitioner was called and informed of the nature of the accident. Sensing the urgency, because of the great loss of blood, she offered to come to us at once.
When she arrived she could feel that there was considerable fear expressed, and she recommended that the three of us quietly repeat aloud the Lord's Prayer. We did so. This brought a wonderful sense of peace and assurance which increased our receptivity to her work. After a few moments the bleeding stopped, as well as the severe pain which I had been experiencing.
