Many years ago I had a little...

Many years ago I had a little houseboy called Chrissie, whose hands and feet were covered with unsightly warts. Each morning I read with him a section of the Lesson-Sermon, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. I often spoke to him of Mrs. Eddy and her wonderful healings. I told him of how she healed a schoolboy of a bone felon which kept him awake at night. She asked him if he would let her heal the felon. He replied that he would. She then said, "Will you promise not to do anything for it or let any one else, if I undertake to cure it?" The boy promised and actually forgot the felon; and when his attention was again called to the finger, it was found to be well. (See The Life of Mary Baker Eddy by Sibyl Wilbur, pp. 140,141.)

I mentioned all this to Chrissie and said that when we did the lesson, we could pray about the warts if he promised not to look at them unnecessarily. I also told him about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead and about how he prayed to God, even before the demonstration was made: "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always" (John 11:41, 42). So each day after we had done the lesson, we repeated these words of Jesus.

One particular day the following verse came in the lesson (John 7:24): "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." I explained to him as well as I could what these words meant.
