"Go forward"

In the fourteenth chapter of Exodus we read, "The Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward."

With the armies of the Egyptians pursuing them and the Red Sea confronting them, the children of Israel were in a sorry plight. But Moses had promised, "Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever" (Ex. 14:13). We are all familiar with what followed: the Israelites passed through the midst of the sea, on dry ground.

Figuratively speaking, we sometimes feel that we are in a similar situation with no way of escape from some destruction that is pressing on our heels. On page 454 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes, "The understanding, even in a degree, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and plants the feet in the true path,— the path which leads to the house built without hands 'eternal in the heavens.'"
