Love Heals

As the student of Christian Science ponders its pure spiritual teachings, he begins to realize more and more clearly that true love is the secret of healing. He asks himself, "What is this love:'" Perhaps he often prays with the Psalmist (Ps. 119:18), "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law." These things are wondrous to behold. They are hidden to the inward blind, but open to the pure in heart—the spiritually receptive.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 225). "Love is the liberator." And a line in one of the hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal, using our Leader's thought, reads (No. 179), "Love frees from error's thrall,—Love is liberation." To one who is in the depths of fear, this is a gloriously assuring statement.

In I John (4:18) the familiar verse is found that reads, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment." If there is no fear in Love, and there is none, it obviously is impossible for fear to be in Love's reflection. Isn't it logical to declare that one who can heal fear can heal almost anything?
